Social ResponsibilitySince our inception more than two decades ago, Rusneftegaz has always exercised ambition in all that we do, whether that is undertaking rapid growth strategies to emerge as one of the largest oil companies in the Russian Federation, or achieving high performance and efficiency in our production activities. However, one of our greatest priorities has also been to conduct our business in an ethical manner, and thus act responsibly to all of those impacted by our actions. We aim to ensure the maximum balance between our own economic interests and those of wider society, doing our utmost to appreciate not only our own employees and shareholders, but also the broader population. In context, this means performing specialist work in the fields of environmental protection, complying with all relevant legislation and implementing the best practices from across the globe. This is due to the fact that as an entity, we aspire to be recognized for the competence, reliability and safety of our operations, and have instigated a number of reforms in the past to guarantee that such principles are upheld. For instance, our management has initiated a framework detailing our latest directives and guidelines, providing comprehensive information regarding all aspects of our affairs. Perhaps the most important of these documents outlines our core values, which are ultimately applied in all our endeavors, and is the basic philosophy that our staff are expected to subscribe to whilst working for us.
Following the most recent revision to these codes in 2015, the seven fundamental tenets of our corporation are honesty, integrity, openness, professionalism, respect, teamwork and trust. At Rusneftegaz, we consider it vital to establish such traits in all areas of our enterprise, and thus demonstrate our high standards in all the regions where we are active. The development of this culture is particularly crucial for our current expansion, as it allows us to form partnerships with some of the most innovative organizations in the world on the foundations of reciprocal confidence. This does not merely include other companies, but also governmental bodies and academic institutions, the latter of which take a significant role in our research projects. To facilitate this, we have provided extensive support to both vocational and higher educational establishments over the past twenty years, most notably those that are local to our extraction sites, or with departments focusing on the oil and gas industry. Since the beginning of this scheme, we have enrolled hundreds of young professionals in courses to enrich their knowledge of the petroleum sector. As a key element of our youth recruitment programs, such personnel have subsequently completed on-the-job training, or in some cases a full college degree. We believe that by investing in those with great potential to grow in conjunction with these universities, Rusneftegaz will not only be capable of addressing new challenges in the future, but will also provide an effective incentive for gifted students to join our growing business.
These associations do not extend solely into the realm of academia, with our entity also maintaining numerous affiliations with firms in the districts in which we operate. For example, our supplies of lumber and steel are locally sourced, in addition to a number of the construction, transportation and maintenance services we utilize on a routine basis. At this moment in time, transactions with Russian companies account for more than half of our yearly expenditure on assets, with almost a quarter of such spending attributable to enterprises in the locations in which we conduct our activities. As a result, ongoing investment by us will continue to yield not only new opportunities for neighboring organizations, but also a greater quantity of jobs for the residents of these provinces. This is primarily because we think that cooperation with all those who may be affected by our operations, directly or perhaps more obliquely, is essential for our continued success. However, our efforts to collaborate does not end at the borders of the localities where we trade, with Rusneftegaz proactively seeking to work with corporations in all corners of the planet. Therefore, we are primed to form fruitful, long-term partnerships with other interested parties willing to work with us, principally based on transparency and mutual interests. Hence, we aim to build and further our relations with all our stakeholders, not limited to but inclusive of our present and prospective consumers, employees, suppliers and contractors.
Whilst our enduring commitment to local populations and companies has been previously stated, Rusneftegaz also maintains strong, long-standing connections with both the government and the Orthodox Church. Although our relationship with the former is predicated on fulfilling the strategic objectives of the Ministry of Energy, our alliance with the latter is founded on a common interest in reviving religious traditions and values for the broader benefit of society. Such assistance is only one of the many initiatives we organize each year, as one of our greatest priorities is to maximize the benefits such proposals have on these places. The largest of our philanthropic endeavors is our annual volunteering drive, which is integral to our corporate culture and at the core of our fundamental principles. With the full support of our board of directors, we allow our staff to participate in voluntary projects in the aid of various entities and or those in need, if each member of our workforce wishes to do so. These campaigns, organized in the absence of any remuneration, are a means for those affiliated with our business to engage with both the population and the territories in which their work is conducted. In previous years, our personnel have successfully arranged targeted aid for the most vulnerable sectors of each district. By way of illustration, this has included visiting the elderly, distributing Christmas presents to children and helping military veterans attend Victory Day parades. These actions have been coordinated in conjunction with our young professionals, who in the past have cleared rivers, planted trees and renovated public parks for the good of the environment.
In spite of the fact that the primary aim of Rusneftegaz is to undertake our affairs profitably and ultimately become one of the foremost producers of crude oil and refined products in Russia, we also strive to use our mineral resources rationally and wisely. As an organization, we believe that the sustainable development of our production sites is necessary for the long-term success of our company as a whole, and thus mitigating the potential for ecological risks and hazards is critical for our continued economic progression. As a result, we not only conduct all our activities in strict compliance with all relevant laws and regulations, but also in accordance with the standards prescribed in ISO 14001. Under the terms of this standard, we do our utmost to preserve the original habitats of wildlife, abide by all rules regarding waste disposal and perform extensive measures to monitor and reclaim contaminated land. All such proceedings are crucial if we are to not only implement our wider growth strategy, but also one day assume a leadership position in all areas of the petroleum industry. To realize such ambitious goals, we deploy the services of distinguished experts and specialists to complete these schemes. By employing the services of those individuals with an abundance of experience in their field, we can minimize our impact on our surroundings, and work with the regulatory authorities to ensure full conformity with the law. We view such oversight as a positive for our enterprise, as it guarantees accountability for our deeds, and the continuous improvement in all aspects of what we do.
